William Barnhart’s Alaska Journey

Support William: Discipleship Training & Outreach

After graduating early to follow God’s calling, William is heading to Fairbanks, Alaska on April 1st to begin a five-month journey with Youth With A Mission (YWAM) Alaska—based in Healy, just an hour from the majestic Denali National Park.

What is Discipleship Training School (DTS)

The DTS is a two-phase missionary program designed to help students “know God and make Him known” through intensive spiritual growth and hands-on service.

  • Phase 1 (Training): Three months of deep discipleship in the Alaskan wilderness, focusing on biblical foundations, hearing God’s voice, and character development.

  • Phase 2 (Outreach): Two months of fieldwork. William may be sent to Nepal or fly bush planes into any of Alaska’s 230 remote villages to provide medical aid and construction support for Native communities.

William is leaving behind his friends, family, and youth group to bring the Gospel and practical help to those in need. Whether in the Himalayas or the Alaskan bush, he is stepping out in faith to serve where the need is greatest.

This journey is not just an adventure or a gap year—it is a calling. As he prepares for this next season, he humbly and wholeheartedly asks for your prayers for safety, wisdom, and strength. If you feel led, he would also be deeply grateful for any financial support to help make this mission to the nations possible.

William is preparing to move to Alaska as part of a global missions organization, Youth With A Mission.

  • William and his team are part of the Discipleship Training School (DTS), a global outreach of Youth With A Mission. After graduating early to answer God’s calling, William is heading to Healy, Alaska, to begin intensive ministry training. From there, he will join a team focused on serving the “least of these”—whether that means flying bush planes into remote Alaskan Native villages to assist with medical and construction needs, or traveling to Nepal to share the Gospel. Their mission is to empower local believers and meet the physical and spiritual needs of communities in a way that is practical, compassionate, and transformative.

This outreach empowers communities to engage deeply with the Bible—encouraging self-led study, spiritual growth, and local leadership rooted in God’s Word.
